Description
Hearty turkey sweet potato chili packed with lean ground turkey, sweet potatoes, beans, corn, and bold spices for a comforting and nutritious meal.
Ingredients
- Chili Base:
- 2 tbsp avocado oil
- 1 small white onion (diced)
- 3 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 lb sweet potatoes (peeled, cubed)
- 2 cans crushed tomatoes (15 oz each)
- 1 cup chicken broth
- Spices:
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp cayenne (optional)
- 2 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp black pepper
- Add-ins:
- 1 can corn (15.25 oz, drained)
- 1 can black beans (15.5 oz, drained and rinsed)
- Sour cream (optional)
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Heat avocado oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Sauté onion for 2–3 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and cook 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground turkey and cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart.
- Stir in sweet potatoes and cook 2 minutes.
- Add crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, and all spices. Stir well.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 30 minutes.
- Add corn and black beans, then simmer 10–15 more minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Optional: mash some sweet potatoes for thicker chili.
- Serve with sour cream and cilantro if desired.
Notes
- Great for meal prep and freezes well.
- Adjust spice level by increasing cayenne.
- Mashing sweet potatoes helps thicken the chili naturally.
