Description
This No Bean Turkey and Sweet Potato Chili is a thick, hearty, slow cooker comfort meal packed with lean ground turkey, sweet potato, tomatoes, peppers, and warm spices. Naturally gluten free, dairy free, paleo, and Whole30 friendly.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red onion, chopped
- 2 pounds ground turkey
- 1 large sweet potato, diced (1-inch cubes)
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 4-ounce can diced green chiles
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 jalapeño, diced
- 1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes
- 1 14-ounce can tomato sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon cumin
- 3 tablespoons chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander
Instructions
- Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and sauté for 3 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Transfer mixture to a slow cooker.
- Add sweet potato, bell pepper, green chiles, chicken broth, jalapeño, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and all spices.
- Stir well, cover, and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours.
- Serve warm with desired toppings.
Notes
- For a thinner chili, add 1/2 to 1 cup extra chicken broth.
- Great toppings include avocado, chopped herbs, jalapeños, or tortilla chips.
