Description
Firecracker Chicken is a crispy, flavorful dish made with fried halal chicken tossed in a sweet, spicy, and tangy sauce, then baked to perfection for a restaurant-style meal at home.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs chicken breast or thighs (halal)
- Salt and pepper
- 3 eggs, whisked
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 3/4 cup buffalo sauce
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and mix sauce ingredients.
- Cut chicken into pieces and season with salt and pepper.
- Coat chicken in eggs, then cornstarch, then dip back in eggs.
- Fry in hot oil until golden and crispy.
- Place fried chicken on rack to drain excess oil.
- Toss chicken with sauce and transfer to baking dish.
- Bake for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through.
- Garnish and serve with rice.
Notes
- Ensure oil is hot before frying for crispy coating.
- Peanut oil adds extra flavor if preferred.
- Add red pepper flakes for more heat.
