Description

Firecracker Chicken is a crispy, flavorful dish made with fried halal chicken tossed in a sweet, spicy, and tangy sauce, then baked to perfection for a restaurant-style meal at home.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken breast or thighs (halal)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 eggs, whisked
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup buffalo sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and mix sauce ingredients.
  2. Cut chicken into pieces and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Coat chicken in eggs, then cornstarch, then dip back in eggs.
  4. Fry in hot oil until golden and crispy.
  5. Place fried chicken on rack to drain excess oil.
  6. Toss chicken with sauce and transfer to baking dish.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through.
  8. Garnish and serve with rice.

Notes

  • Ensure oil is hot before frying for crispy coating.
