Description
These Baked Apple Cider Donuts are soft, moist, and cake-like with rich apple cider flavor and warm fall spices. Finished with a buttery cinnamon sugar coating, they’re an easy homemade treat ready in just 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups apple cider
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup whole or 2% milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
- Spiced Sugar Topping:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Pour the apple cider into a saucepan and simmer over medium heat until reduced to 1/3 cup. Let it cool completely.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom.
- Add the dry ingredients and cooled apple cider reduction to the wet ingredients. Mix just until combined.
- Fill a greased donut pan halfway with batter.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool the donuts in the pan for 5 minutes, then remove them.
- Mix the topping sugar with the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom.
- Brush each donut with melted butter and roll in the spiced sugar until fully coated.
- Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
- Reduce the apple cider to a thick syrup for the best flavor.
- Allow the cider reduction to cool completely before mixing into the batter.
- For easier filling, transfer the batter to a piping bag.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for 2–3 days and reheat before serving.
