Description
Authentic Arrabbiata Sauce is a bold and spicy Italian sauce perfect for pasta. Made with dried chilies, chili flakes, fire-roasted tomatoes, and fresh basil, this sauce delivers a fiery, rich flavor.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 dried chili peppers
- 1 teaspoon dried chili flakes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 small onions, finely diced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 14.5 oz crushed tomatoes, fire-roasted if possible (2 cans)
- 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- ¼ cup vodka (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves, to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat. Add dried chili peppers and chili flakes; infuse for 2–3 minutes.
- Add onions and garlic; sauté for about 5 minutes until onions are golden brown.
- Stir in tomato paste; cook for 5 minutes with onions and garlic.
- Add crushed tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, and vegetable broth. Stir and simmer 15 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat. Stir in vodka if using. Add fresh basil leaves to taste.
Notes
- Adjust chili flakes and dried peppers for desired heat.
- Vodka is optional; it adds subtle depth.
- Store in airtight container in fridge up to 1 week, or freeze up to 3 months.
- Serve over pasta, pizza, or as a spicy dipping sauce.
