Description

Sausage Gravy Breakfast Tater Tot Casserole is a one-skillet comfort food favorite that works perfectly for breakfast or dinner. Creamy, peppery sausage gravy is topped with crispy golden tater tots, creating an irresistible, hearty family meal that comes together in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • For the Gravy Base
  • 1 lb gluten-free breakfast sausage
  • 1 cup riced cauliflower (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free flour blend
  • 2½ cups milk (any variety)
  • 1 teaspoon homemade seasoned salt
  • 12 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • For the Topping
  • 1 (30 oz) bag frozen tater tots
  • Chopped green onions (optional)
  • Extra black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven according to tater tot package directions (usually 425°F / 220°C).
  2. Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add sausage and cauliflower, breaking meat into small pieces. Cook until no pink remains, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and sprinkle flour over the meat. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Slowly whisk in milk, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  6. Season with seasoned salt and black pepper. Simmer 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Remove from heat and arrange tater tots in a circular pattern on top.
  8. Bake according to tater tot package instructions until golden and crispy.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with green onions and extra pepper if desired.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature milk for the smoothest gravy.
  • Do not over-thicken the gravy before baking.
  • Some tater tots sinking into the gravy is normal.
  • Adjust black pepper to taste.
  • Let casserole rest before serving for best texture.
