Quick, bold, and pantry-friendly—this sardine pasta delivers rich flavor with minimal ingredients in under 20 minutes.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz dry fettuccine pasta
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 can (3.75 oz) sardines in tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Red pepper flakes, to taste
  • Salt to taste


Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted water until al dente (about 8 minutes).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté onion for 3 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in sardines with their tomato sauce and heat for 3 minutes.
  5. Drain pasta and add to the skillet. Toss well and let sit off heat, covered, for 3 minutes.
  6. Finish with lemon juice, Parmesan, and red pepper flakes. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Reserve a bit of pasta water to loosen the sauce if needed.
  • Let pasta rest in the sauce before serving for better flavor.
  • Use a wide skillet for even coating.
