Ingredients
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped parsley
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Boil potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Let cool.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet. Sauté onion and garlic for about 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add ground beef, smoked paprika, oregano, and chili flakes. Cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
- Stir in cheddar cheese and parsley. Allow filling to cool slightly.
- Flatten a scoop of mashed potatoes in your hand, add 1 tablespoon of beef filling, and seal with more potatoes. Shape into a patty.
- Coat patties in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then roll in breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil over medium heat and fry patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
Notes
- Cool mashed potatoes and filling before shaping for best results.
- Double-coat with breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
- Can be prepared ahead and fried just before serving.
